Isobel Salvie seems to have everything; youth, beauty, wealth... unfortunately, none of that matters much when you're dead, poisoned by an unknown person for equally unknown reasons. Arriving in Heaven, Isobel is greeted by God herself. All seems well, because as it turns out, Paradise is wonderful.

However, the pleasures of the afterlife don't come for free...

Poetry in Purgatory is a unique, ever-evolving story about what it means to live, love and make peace with things you can't run away from... even when you may desperately want to.

Note: This game is a standalone sequel to Pitstop in Purgatory, so you do not need to play that first! Buuut if you like this game you might want to check out that one too. :)

Enter a truly memorable story currently consisting of almost 100k words, with the option of playing as a good-natured Paragon or an ill-willed Renegade.
Explore the interactive world of Purgatory through a day-night cycle with four segments per day... lots of stuff to click on (or not, if you don't want to).
Commit fully to the story or partake in as many character routes and/or side stories as you desire, and watch as their outcomes change the narrative in meaningful ways.
Twist your mind as you uncover a myriad of plot threads, all carried by an afterlife setting as rich in lore as it is in pure, unadulterated fun.
Stay connected to the Dwellers and Denizens of the afterlife via the PurgaPhone! Send and receive messages, with many of them unique to the choices you make.
Marvel at sprites, backgrounds, special scenes and inventory items all drawn in a beautiful and unique style.
Unlock 50+ hidden items, including database entries, gallery images, music tracks and achievements.
Bop your head to a dynamic soundtrack composed by popular YouTube artist Endigo.

We're very excited about making Poetry in Purgatory as special as it can possibly be! Click here to read more about what the full game will offer, as well as what you can expect from the next update.

Hey I'm here to say I really appreciate your game. I'm looking forward to the next update in android. Love ya! and your work.

(+1)

Hi! Thank you for dropping by to say that, it really means a lot! :) <3 Happy you're having fun with the game (and we love ya too for playing)!!

(+2)

Honesty I must say this, **I LOVE THIS GAME** , period. I really like the characters with their personality and the shadows too. The storylines are interesting more. I want to really want full games but I have to wait when it is full games later... The act 1 end story gave me blow my mind out and I did read the stories over all again few time. (I already rate this game too for five stars too.)

Do not give up on this game, Creators and the Team! I hope it would be complete games for next few year or so...( Just for think for myself)  but please take your time to get rest and stuff else when the game would work on! Always first is your heathy.

Aww thank you so much!! We're very happy to hear that you like the game so much. :) And thank you also for the 5 stars! <3 Don't worry, we definitely intend to finish this game no matter how long it takes. :)

(+3)

First off, the UI (I think that's what it's called but I'm not super well versed in game design) is gorgeous! Also, I am so invested in all the characters (even the side ones)! The fact that I knew something was off about someone and still fell so hard for them anyway is haunting me. They're like exactly my type, I couldn't help it. That said, I can't wait to see what's next :)

Hi! It is indeed called UI and thank you very much! :D Awesome to hear that the game has managed to hook you (sorry about a certain someone hehe)!! Much more to come soon and I'm happy you're along for the ride! <3

(1 edit) (+3)

when's the sheol route gonna be released? I WANT MY GOTHIC BAE ROUTE

(+1)

LOL <3 Well you're not alone in wanting that, and I can't wait to start working on it!! If I were to guess it will probably make it in for version 0.4 (so not the next one but the next after that), so hopefully sometime late this year. :)

(+1)

wait so who's the next?

(+1)

That's a secret... for now. Heh heh~ :D

(+2)

THIS IS SO AMAZING OH MY GOD,, IM KIND OF ASHAMED TO COME FROM GUIDELICIOUS BECAUSE THE GUIDE IS JUST SO URGH. SO SMACKABLE BUT I BADLY WANT TO ROMANCE THE HELL OUTTA HIM

so excited for future/upcoming updates :3

HI! :D So happy to hear that you're enjoying our games! And OH NO LOL don't feel ashamed, it's great to hear that you followed Guide's trail all the way here!! <3

Much more cool stuff coming in the future for sure! :)

(+2)

Discovering the game and seeing how interesting it is. I've already noticed that the art is exceptional. PART 1 HERE:

That’s great to hear! :) Thank you for playing and hope you’ll continue to have fun with it!

(+4)

lil smiles my little child ... my sweet baby ... i want to hug them and give them pizza and take them to the park

(+1)

Lil' Smiles would LOVE that!! :D <3

(+2)

ARGRGHRHRG THE GUIDE IS SO ASGSAHGHSGAJSGH

LMAO well put tbh <3 <3 <3

(1 edit) (+1)

im begging to romance him ill do anythiAGSHGSHSH ALSO A QUESTION did something happen to his and remm's eyes (since its kinda like this white-ish blue-ish color, and often people put those if there was injury or damage to a character's eyes),, or is it just randomly like that (or is it part of the whole remm being god and the guide being ruler of purgatory thing) im genuinely interested ALSO im sorry if this made no sense i suck at explaining <//3

(i dont know if i wanna beg for him or kick him in the face for being a jackass. probably both at the same time) ALSO why is he the shortest male char ingame....... like no offense i love short dudes like cmere my gnome

All I can say is that it's definitely related to them being Deities (i.e. rulers of Heaven or Purgatory). The rest of it will be revealed in the future, hehe... :D <3

(+1)

what's the font used for the title and character names? i've seen it before in a restaurant and wondered what it was

(+1)

Hi! The font is called Belladona. :)

(+1)

thankyou! ^_^

(+2)

AIUHFU*BHYAHUIYFFJKNA  MOREEEEEE

More is coming *very* soon! :D

(+4)

I feel like one of those women in ancient greek myth who find out their boyfriend is actually Zeus or something. 10/10 didn't expect that loser I spent the night with to be evil Jesus

(+1)

LMAO this is such a funny comment and honestly a pretty spot-on analogy too! XD

Thank you so much for playing! <3

(+1)

Hey! I LOVE! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE! THE GAME! Probably my new favorite game yet, or maybe EVER!

I have heard that you can romance the characters, but is it possible to romance The Guide? (I am on my KNEES for guide!)

Hi! :D Omg that makes me so happy to hear!! Thank you for playing it and for liking it so much, that really makes my day!! <3 <3 <3

And yes, The Guide will be romanceable in a future update! :)

(+2)

welp time to make an oc for this thing

(1 edit)

OH awesome!! Feel free to share it with the community if you want, would love to see it! :D <3

(1 edit) (+1)

i am barely halfway through but i know for a fact at least once in this game bliss will play wonderwall.

update: he has yet to play wonderwall but i need a plushie of him ??

LOL maybe he will and maybe he won't... who knows :D

And AHH that's such a nice idea... I'd love one too tbh lol!

Thanks for playing <3

(1 edit) (+2)

GRRRR this game scratches my brain so good, I absolutely adore it. The plot is completely captivating and some of the characters are just so despiseable that they're loveable (hehe, the guide). I haven't even finished yet and I'm already begging for more LOL. It is SERIOUSLY impressive for a wip, I'm honestly baffled. I'm absolutely elated i found this gem, MUCH support to you man!

P.S, the nod to I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream was the cherry on top of the proverbial cake. Love to see it!

(1 edit) (+1)

AWWW THANK YOU!! :D <3 This made my day to read!! I'm very happy that you like it that much and ahhhh yes we've worked so hard on it even though it's still WIP, so that means a lot to read!! :)

Much more to come (including a major update with new content and an added phone app) very soon! :)

ACK it makes me so happy that someone caught the reference!! I tend to put little nods like that to stuff I like in my games and it feels like most of it goes unnoticed so I kinda just do it for myself LOL but it's awesome to hear that you got it (such a brilliant book btw, a huge influence on my taste in writing). :D

(+1)

Is there romance? I dont remember if ive asked before

(+1)

Hi! :) Yes, there is! There are nine characters in total you can romance in some way or another, although just one in the current version. A second will be added in the next update (should be out before the year ends). :) You can do routes with these characters while doing the main story and then you can decide if you want to be friends or romance them (you can also romance multiple characters or just ignore romance entirely if you want).

(+1)

yay!!

(+1)

Your idea to use different color theme for each time-period is kinda genius! I really like it

Thank you very much! Glad you liked that little touch. :) <3

(1 edit) (+1)

Please please please tell me that Astrid and Vol will have a happy ending together in at least one of the endings in the completed version of the game!! I fell in love with them and their relationship in Pitstop and now I honestly wouldn't even have minded if this second game had a route that was just the player character getting them together again!!!

(+1)

Hi! I'm very happy to hear that their relationship resonates with you, and believe me when I say that it's very important to me, too! :D <3

However, I don't want to give out spoilers for the future so I'm afraid I'll just have to say "wait and see"... ;_; heh heh <3

Thank you so much for playing and for commenting! :) <3

(+1)

I realized I never commented and we all love writing and reading comments, so, here we go.

Once again, we find ourselves young and tragically dead (certified storytelling classic!). Great news! We go straight to Heaven. Bad news! Heaven is something you have to work hard for. So, we get temporarily demoted to Purgatory in order to find out what's wrong there. And what's wrong? Only God knows! Except, she doesn't. Oh no! Disaster!

I first experienced this game while being on massive amount of caffeine and inappropriate amount of sleep. I should've been drowsy and uninterested for all the hours I spent playing, but the story just... sucked me in. How could I be sleepy when all of this is happening? I am a Purgatoryverse enjoyer and I knew, somewhat vaguely, the quality I could expect from this game, but all of my expectations were not only met, but also exceeded, and by a lot. I won't spoiler anything, but gods know I was gasping when the big plot twist came at the end of act 1, and there were more moments (and characters!) which grabbed my little soul and didn't want to let go. Part of me was scared, irrationally, that we'll just get a reskin of Pitstop in Purgatory, but this certainly isn't the case. We're served a whole new meal here, and I will be rating it 5* in the app.

Thank you so much Naarel!! For playing, for commenting and for always being so supportive and a fantastic, positive source of joy in the Discord. Your dedication to my games really means more than you probably know, and helps me work harder and better to keep expanding The Purgatoryverse. <3 <3 <3

(+2)

Alright I played Pitstop in Purgatory and I enjoyed it, but this, this was FANTASTIC! The art got even better since the first instalment and I loved the interactivity with the day/night cycle. I'm invested on so many levels, I really want Vol and Astrid to be happy together....... It pains me that I have no influence on it and I can only hope that things will turn out for the better in the end but to be honest I have little hope (then again I love me some tragedy, so I am along for the ride regardless)

I played as uh, "unpleasant" Isobel and I enjoyed being a rude little shit very much haha. And how could I not mention the TWIST at the end, holy shit, I did not see it coming but it was so good!!!! I liked the characters better this time around as well, they seem to have more going for them and are more likable in their complexity. My favourite so far is Sheol! I'm torn between going back to see what changes when I pick a different alignment or waiting for new content and trying that out with a different alignment. But I think I've already decided that mean Isobel is "canon" for me haha, so maybe replaying it is...

(+1)

Awwww thank you so much for the lovely comment! Super happy that you enjoyed the game and that you felt like it even improved on PiP, that's what we were hoping to do. :) <3

Also, I've got to say that it's great fun to hear from a Renegade Isobel because the vast majority of people go Paragon (especially on their first run) so the added perspective was great to read about LOL

Thank you so much for playing, and there's much more to look forward to! <3

(+2)

really incredible stuff! i havent played pitstop in purgatory, but when i have the money i will definitely get it! i just adore what you have going on and im so excited for the full release!

(+1)

Aww! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it so much! :) <3 And yes, much more to come!

Keep an eye out for PiP sales, they happen quite often heh heh! :D

(+3)

This was so GOOD!! I love how your Purgatoryverse stories are connected, not only because they take place in the same universe, but also because of the characters who appear in them and all the easter eggs you leave which reference things that happened before and/or characters that left an impact on other characters.

The art is, as always, GORGEOUS, the painty sort of Van Gogh style is really pretty and fits the story very well!! The music, BEAUTIFUL (not gonna lie, I wanna buy the soundtrack if there's any plans for one sometime lol). I was also really impressed and charmed by all the UI and the way it was programmed to appear; little by little, like an adventure where you slowly get certain tools that will help you throughout the story. I'm also a big fan of point and click mechanics, so I always have a lot of fun playing through your Purgatoryverse games <3

The writing is amazing. I love the way you can go from dark and mysterious to comedic to even romantic. It's hard to balance different genres and I think you do that really well! The characters you create are always a treat, they have so much personality and life to them that they feel like REAL PEOPLE. They're not all good or all bad, they're a beautiful gray, they're complex, and that's what makes them so interesting. Not to mention these "verbal viruses" that you give to them add so much; like how Vol keeps saying "that is to say", how Bliss always has to add "man" to end his sentences or how Sheol speaks through poetry. I love it!! <3

Isobel is also a great MC, I think I like her even better than Astrid. I love just how kind she is while also being complex and having her flaws too. I honestly would love being her friend hehe. Seeing more of Vol here, from a different perspective, was also a pleasant surprise, and I really liked learning more about Remm too!! I won't go into details for the other characters to avoid spoilers but GOD that plot twist was WILD and I did NOT see that coming. I hope Isobel is alright, I really want her to have a happy ending kdsbgkjgb!!

The only critique I'd make is a technical one. I think there might be a little bug with Isobel's side sprite. Sometimes she appears at random times (where I'm guessing she shouldn't appear) or when she changes expressions. But that's really all, just a minor bug hehe.

Thank you for making this game, I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to the updates!! <3

PS: The Apechs joke about how Astrid is known to be The Voice, not The Hearing had me laughing forever.

(+2)

AHHHHHHHHH thank yooou sooo much for your lovely words, that means a lot coming from a dev whom I respect so much!! ;_; <3

And ooh yes, that bug is known to us and we're working on fixing it hehe!

Very happy that you enjoyed the game so much!! THANK YOU AGAIN <3 <3 <3

I kind of like the depiction of god as a bubbly black lady, haven't seen this kind of personality trait to characterize god before!
At the same time, it's a bit of a love-hate since her over cheeriness and silliness reminds me of 14 year old me on fb chat but it's such a nice contrast when she does get a little serious with threats.

Side note, for the world map, I wondered what the world would look like to god given it's beyond just humanity. ^^

Not sure if it's a bug but the music stopped in the mac build when travelling to purgatory. Came back with the guide! Excited to play through!

Hi! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the game so far. :)

It's not a bug, it's supposed to be a silent moment basically. But you're not the only one who asked lol so I might add some kind of ambient sound effects or something in an update to make it more clear. ^^;

(+1)

Gotcha, I realized that after when it happened again for the next character! This is such an interesting premise of being sent for undercover work by god

Look forward to seeing how it pans out! I was curious though about the book (beautifully designed btw!) It said that the guide doesn’t like denizens but acknowledge that he is helping dwellers in his place move on, wouldn’t that turn them into denizens? If I find out later then no spoilers please just thought it was curious hehe

Glad you like the premise! :D

Ah yes, what happens to Dwellers when they move on isn't entirely clear so I can't comment on that without risking to spoil things that will be revealed further on hehe. ;)

Ehee excited

an amazing game that's so, so engaging!!! it immediately absorbs you within the narrative with gorgeous art, absolutely lovely music, and excellent writing. anyone interested in meeting a charming cast of characters, all from completely differing settings, "Night At The Museum"-style will get a kick out of this!! i certainly enjoyed the varying aesthetics. seeing a goth lady, a cyberpunk man, and fashion disaster + the rest of the cast converse with one another? it made me giggle, don't get me started on the conversations. having played pitstop in purgatory, i have to say - poetry in purgatory is very much of the same quality. if not, more!!! the UI is absolutely gorgeous, like. i genuinely sat there stunned at how detailed all the features are. so much love and thought was clearly put into this!! i could write forever about this, but i'll leave it at that. please, please, play this game.

Aww, thank you so much!! :) It means the world to me that you enjoyed it! <3

(+2)

I just finished the game and I am not surprised that the writing, art, music, and GUI, is as good if not better than Pitstop in Purgatory. Just like in PiP, before and after I started/ended my playthrough, I sat at the menu listening to the music because that theme is good. The first act offers so much in how depending on how you answer the first few questions, it changes the answers you will have later on. This attention to detail is so amazing, I now know that I will have to go back and play through the many sides of Isobel.

I think my favorite part of the game so far is how there is now a day cycle you can decide who to hang out with or continue on with the main story. I'm ready for what kind of side quests and new characters are later to come.

I'm so excited for what is next in the Purgatoryverse. All of the characters are so compelling, I can't help but want more. Congratulations to the whole team for releasing such a stellar part of the game in simply one month.

I was screaming at the end.. I can't believe he ended up being the shadow sneaking around. I'm in literal shock.

Thank you so very much!! I'm very glad that you liked it! :)

Can you please make a web or android version?

Hi!

The game is unfortunately much too big for a web version. I did an Android port of my last game and it wasn't very popular, but if there's demand then I'll definitely consider making a new one for this. But that will probably be later on when the game is more complete. :)

Thank you.

Hi!

The Android version is now finally available, if you're still interested. :)

Thank you for your patience. <3

(+1)

Thank you so much!

My pleasure! Hope you’ll have fun :)

(+2)

A stunning sequel to Pitstop in Purgatory with a whole new story that could stand on its own, though I recommend playing the first game if you enjoy this one as it adds a lot more to the story and characters! I love the new features, and it's easy to see that this is really just the tip of the iceberg with so much more to follow as more content gets added later. Despite this only being the first act, there's a lot to enjoy and plenty of content already, with some exciting twists and turns in the plot.

Fans of Pitstop in Purgatory are likely to enjoy this fabulous new entry to the series, with all the attention to detail and little in-jokes that you've come to know and love from the creator. Newcomers to the franchise have an excellent introduction to the universe and story, too.

To say a bit more about the actual content, though:
POiP is a blend of point and click exploration and puzzle solving gameplay combined beautifully with choice based visual novel storytelling, where your decisions impact the story and characters as you go along. You're able to flavour the protagonist's personality, which changes some of her responses and how other characters speak to her in turn. There is only one romance route so far, but with more on the horizon it looks like we will have an excellent selection to choose from, and we are also able to pursue relationships and connections with multiple characters in a single playthrough, too, so we won't have to choose only one route per run through the game. The art is beautiful and unique in style, with strong personality in each of the characters. The music is also pleasant to listen to and adds a lot to the mood and atmosphere of the game, it's well written and fits the game beautifully. The writing is compelling, with a great balance between a serious and compelling story and the moments of humour throughout.

This review is getting a bit long now so I'll leave it with this - I look forward to seeing what comes next in the story as the game updates.

Thank you so much for your lovely words! Glad that you enjoyed the game! <3

(+2)

I had so much fun playing this game! Isobel is such an endearing and relatable MC that I could easily put myself in her shoes - and it was great being able to shape her personality as I like. As a goodie two-shoes myself, I played her as a paragon and I was really impressed by the clear care you put into conditional dialogue and writing the story around players' choices. That's honestly really tough and you pulled it off well!

And as always, your world-building is super fun and there's always this wonderful sense of mystery lurking behind every double-meaning set besides what characters say... which of course makes the mystery gameplay and riddle solving even more fun. I'm looking forward to more on this game!

Thank you very much for the sweet comment, I'm happy that you liked the game! :)

(+1)

Truly a gorgeous game. Immediately engaging premise and amazingly well made!

(+1)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! :) <3

(+3)

The minute I saw that bell...

I knew what had to be done...

And that's slam it endlessly until I got yelled at, aaaaaa!!! xD

Little interactions like this are always my favorite - I think they truly help a game shine, and there are SO MANY. EVERYWHERE I LOOKED.

And with so many well-thought out details buried into every part of this game, it all adds up to an amazing and unforgettable experience.  The GUI? BEAUTIFULLY SLEEK. The writing? EVOCATIVE AND POWERFUL. The characters? UNFORGETTABLE.

Really digging our leading lady already - I find myself feeling so protective of her. :( In all her versions, from paragon to renegade to abstract, she is so, so lovable. I am so excited to experience the rest of her story.

Well done, well done, well done!!! Truly stellar job. <3

(+1)

LMAO I was hoping for the bell to elicit that very response! XD

Thank you so much for this lovely, LOVELY comment! I'm *SO* glad that you like my weird lil' game that much. Thank you thank you thank youuu and more to come! :D <3

(+5)

Honestly, I'm not even done with what is currently in game yet but I had to leave an early comment because GOODNESS, it is so good?????

The universe is immaculate, the characters endearing yet upsetting, I found myself frightened, tormented, comforted and THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING???????

The GUI is beautiful, the music is amazing, the art is superb, I really don't know what words would convey how beautiful the whole experience is! And the writing is funny, yet melancholic, yet dark, yet...

I do love Isobel as a protagonist and how, even as a Paragon, she still manages to be sassy and not to be a goody-two-shoes!

I'll complete everything once I'm done with the demo, but goodness, you and your team did a fantastical job!!! Clearly one of the most fascinating VNs I've ever played, AND IT'S JUST THE BEGINNING!!!!!

(+2)

AHHHH omg... thank you so much for this lovely comment!! :) <3 I'ma cry from all this sweetness ;___;

It means the world to me that you're enjoying it so much! You're getting the exact feeling that I'm trying to convey LOL (frightened, comforted, everything in between...)!

I hope you'll enjoy the rest of it just as much! And thank you again for sharing this with me! <3 <3 <3

(+2)

A good slice of what's on offer. It already looks better than the first game in terms of QoL (no more sluggish recognition of what my cursor is on during the point and click parts!) and the story already has a grander scope from the get go.

Route development does seem a bit too quick, but I'm assuming in the later updates when more routes are released it's not gonna be an issue because you'll probably be encouraged to jump around to different people. (Doesn't seem like there's anything discouraging maxing everyone's bonds first before doing Big Plot Advancement Things)

Will our alignment selection be a one-and-done thing, or will there be opportunities to change it later?

(2 edits) (+1)

Hi there! Happy that you enjoyed it and that you feel like it's improved upon the last game. :)

I agree on the routes, with one character and no artificial wait system in place, it feels a bit "turbo". Like you're saying, having multiple side-quests/routes going at once will likely alleviate that. I was considering an aforementioned wait system like many games have, where you have to wait a set amount of time segments before continuing, but I know in my own case that when that happens I always just spam "skip" to progress so I don't know if it would make the game more fun. But definitely something I'm considering in terms of having the game's continuity, time-wise, feel more "real".

Right now the plan is to have it one-and-done. The reasoning behind it is that besides the choices and flavor text interactions, the various alignments often have Isobel making interjections which are alignment-specific (you might notice that if you replay with a different alignment), and it would feel weird to have her do a complete personality switch mid-game. But that also depends on what the players would like to see, of course. So I'm keeping my eyes open for more feedback on the matter. :)

Thanks for playing and commenting! <3

(+1)

Honestly, I agree with you that adding in a mandatory time requirement would just be more frustrating.

re:Alignment, yeah that makes sense, though the change I was thinking of was making it a sliding scale. However I would definitely prefer seeing work on the overall plot, character routes, and variety of character-defining choices rather than changing alignment. Excited for what's on the horizon!
